What is endocrinology?
Your endocrine system includes important glands located throughout your body. These glands make hormones which are molecules that communicate signals from one type of cells to another via the blood stream. Your endocrine system affects growth and development, metabolism, digestion, elimination, breathing, blood circulation and maintaining body temperature. It can also affect sexual function and reproduction.
What does an endocrinologist do?
Endocrinologists have the training to diagnose and treat hormone imbalances and problems by helping to restore the normal balance of hormones in the body. An endocrinologist has special training in Internal Medicine as well, and works in collaboration with another specialist to best treat hormonal imbalances.
